Wuji (Void, emptiness) is the ever-present realm before perception. Not much to say about that, simply to s’set things up” in order to approach the experience. It separates into yin and yang, which relate in the creation of the myriad of things. Yin and yang relationships include dark – light, earth – sky, front – back. Magnetism – electricity, sinking – rising, condensing – expanding, simultaneous – sequential add to the list. More examples abound.
In class, we will explore the relationships of stillness, movement, and transitions in qigong practice. Cues from early embryology (vibration, resonance, egg, and sperm) along with approaches in Body-Mind Centering® provide a basis to help support our life-fullness practice.
Form: We will attend to yin – yang relationships and pathways of flow in the body to delve into aspects of well-known forms including:
- Zhan Zhuang (Standing Like a Pine Tree)
- Circling Arms
- Merging Heaven and Earth
- Qi Ball
- Wave Hands (a.k.a. Cloud Hands)
- Stepping
These simple movement forms will allow us to more fully discover and cultivate wuji, yin and yang. Form and intention learned in class will provide material for continued study and application to other practice forms.
Flow: Some yin – yang we will explore in class:
- Effort – release (song)
- Internal –external
- Empty – full
- Stillness – movement
- Sinking – rising, left – right, front – back
- Condensing – expanding
Practice: Doing one thing at a time and to not multitask is a common method we can apply to our qigong practice. When learning a new idea or principle, we use the method of “separate then combine.” In any form, there are many mind-intents to incorporate. We can choose one intent, practice this a bit, let it go and attend to another within the same form. With time, the individual aspects layer in and integrate.Attending to one thing at a time helps reduce stress on the nervous system and endocrine system. This allows the bodymind to simply rest.
This class is not form heavy; we will practice a few forms so remembering them will be easy. We will apply yin & yang intents to the same forms.
Participants will receive:
- Class recordings
- Handout with principles and links to resources
- Practice session video for you to download
- Live time for questions and feedback
